4 reasons you should hire an inflatable dome rather than a marquee

So you’re planning an outdoor event and you need to decide on the right structure to accommodate guests. There are so many advantages to installing an inflatable dome for your event or promotion and we’re going to share some of them with you here .

1. They’ve got the ‘wow’ factor

If you want something that is guaranteed to give your guests something to remember, look no further. Our inflatable domes are so much more interesting than your standard four walls of flat sheets: they’re fun, striking and look incredibly inviting. In fact, ours resemble igloos (hence our name), and it’s not everyday you see an igloo at a function or event, is it?

2. Quick and painless installation

Forget hanging around for hours or even days while the team fiddle about with various bits of lining and ugly guide ropes; our domes can be inflated in minutes no matter what size you go for. When you need to create something impressive and time is short, domes are ideal because all they need is pumping up with air and it requires fewer people for installation before you’re good to go. Typically, de-rigging is as quick as setting it up, and takes comparatively less time than a standard marquee. The most complicated full set up will be built by the team here in no more than five hours, and can be deconstructed in about half that time.

3. Make a splash

Picture the scene: on the day of your event, it’s raining and your guests are huddled inside the marquee, staring at the drab weather and wishing they weren’t outside. It’s not an ideal situation for anyone. Tucked inside a dome that’s 100% waterproof will means your guests forget the fowl weather outside, and concentrate on having the best time in the igloo.

4. Comfort is key

One other thing to consider in your search for the perfect place to entertain guests is their comfort. All our domes are designed in a way that allows you to keep the warmth in the structure thanks to the large air cavities between the two fabric skins. This means you get the added advantage of thermal insulation in the colder months, and in the summer, you can make sure your guests don’t get too stifled in the heat.

10 of the weirdest inflatables ever…

10) Inflatable floating wind turbine

The least weird but somewhat still a bit odd…science is a wonderful and whacky thing – check this out:

“The inflatable wind turbine is designed to lift to high altitudes where winds are stronger and more consistent than those reached by traditional tower-mounted turbines. The turbine is held in place by high-strength tethers, which also have cables to carry electricity to the ground. The BAT borrows heavily from aerostats, the blimp-like inflatables that have been used to lift heavy communications equipment for years. BAT is designed to withstand very strong winds, and a prototype survived 45mph winds in a 2013 test.”

9) Inflatable Russian Military tanks

The Russians are by far one of the quirkiest and technologically advanced countries in the world, but we’re not sure about their idea for ballistic inflatable tanks… That said – when world war 3 is over there’ll be some fun to be had with these bad boys.

“The Russian military has lifted the curtain on the county’s new secret weapon: inflatable tanks.

These blow-up ballistic doppelgangers are used to fool enemy surveillance and intelligence drones into believing that the Russian army is far better equipped than they really are. The specially crafted material even fools enemy radar and tricks thermal imaging sensors into thinking that they’re the real deal, carrying the same heat signatures as their more tangible cousins.”

8) The ‘blow-up hand Elephant-thing’

Well they don’t even know what it is…

“Making a blow-up robot has plenty of advantages. It’s much cheaper to create a body that’s made mostly of air, and the Ant-Roach can swim in water. It’s also got a massive strength-to-weight ratio, too. It’s about 30kg, but can support anywhere up to 450kg. On the downside, a sharp needle could probably bring the bot down.”

7) Inflatable steel furniture

No we’re not joking, IKEA must be seething they didn’t think of it first… or aren’t.

“Forget flat-pack: the future of furniture is inflatable steel. That’s the vision of Oskar Zieta, a Polish designer who uses the technique to make resilient pieces such as ladders, chairs and stools. And his latest, the Tatarak coat stand, can be blown up at home with little more than a bicycle pump.”

3) An inflatable church

Can we get a “hallelujah”?

Theres a new kind of inflatable out there and she fits a purpose that you wouldn’t usually expect..

Recently we stumbled across this fascinating article about a gigantic inflatable woman. Here at Igloo Disco the office was of course alive with the usual pun’s about inflatable women. However this inflatable is a lady and she fits a purpose you wouldn’t usually expect.

The gigantic woman appeared in Nanjing city in China and has caused quite a stir with the local children in the area. Ba Di is her name and her purpose is to double up as a sex education playground where children can enter through her feet and explore a ball pool inside.

This great article from the Daily Mail explores the story in more detail – http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3033254/Giant-inflatable-woman-unveiled-China-features-playground-teaches-children-sex.html

We just love inflatables here at Igloo Disco, if you do too and you would like your very own inflatable structure to make your event stand out why not browse our site to find out more.

Fancy an Igloo Disco on Mars? Well it could happen sooner than you think…

Humanity has dreamt of getting off the planet since we first looked up to the stars and began to study the cosmos. Sending men to Mars and even setting up a settlement on our closest planetary neighbour has long been the plot of many a sci-fi movie, Total Recall with the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger being my personal favourite.

Now it seems this could be reality sooner than you think. You may find yourself staying in Space Hotel inside an artificially created atmosphere in an inflatable structure within the next century. Of course the inflatable structures on mars will need to be made from a slightly more specialist material that your usual earth inflatable.

This amazing article from The Guardian Newspaper discusses the history of space habitability and also the issues we have making a cosmic mojito for your esteemed space tourist. It also discusses the history of using inflatables in space and the incredibly strong, but insanely light materials needed to create an inflatable eden on the red planet.

The Igloo Project

In September 2014 the Igloo Disco team took part in a very special event the aptly named Igloo Project in Nunthorpe. The event was a raving success and in keeping with traditional (and exciting) rave values the organisers didn’t reveal the location of the sold out party until the last minute.

The local paper The Gazette Live announced the location on Friday afternoon. You can also see a review and pictures from the event here – http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/view-were-you-rave-igloo-7814311

Igloo Disco were delighted to have been involved in the very successful event and we hope there will be a chance to be part of the Igloo Project again in the future.
